A daring prayer

Not everybody liked these words prayed by Rev. Joe Wright before the Kansas legislature in 1996. It would probably be even less popular more than 10 years later and further down the slope we are slipping down: Heavenly Father, We come before You today to ask Your Forgiveness and seek Your direction and guidance. We [...]

Choices

“Our very lives are fashioned by choice. First we make choices. Then our choices make us” – from the Traveler’s Gift, by Andy Andrews. I love this quote. I haven’t read the book. I actually heard the author speak on a TV show and I’ve been thinking about the quote all day. My choice lately [...]

Do you know the real Jesus?

As a follower of Jesus, you would expect to believe that what he is saying is true. You would expect that if you put all that faith into a person, you would trust him. I was raised taught about Jesus as the bringer of love and peace. He is even called “the Prince of Peace.” [...]

Give me Jesus

This is one of my favorite songs. So simple. Just this – give me Jesus. more about “Fernando Ortega “Give Me Jesus” [Ruth…“, posted with vodpod Fernando Ortega is the singer/songwriter. I actually first heard this song sung by Vince Gill at a concert. This version is a tribute to Ruth Graham.

One Solitary Life

I received this in an email today…. He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant. He grew up in another village, where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was 30. Then, for three years, he was an itinerant preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. [...]

Celtic Woman-O Holy Night

There is Christmas music, and then there are Christmas carols – the songs that celebrate Jesus’ birth. Here is one of the most beautiful Christmas carols, which reminds us of the night Christ was born. Holy, angelic, divine. more about "Celtic Woman-O Holy Night", posted with vodpod

Mother Teresa

I just saw a movie called “Mother Teresa” starring Olivia Hussey. I have always felt this way, and tonight I was able to put it into words – I believe that Mother Teresa was the closest thing to me seeing Jesus in my lifetime. She loved, she trusted God to provide, she took guidance from [...]

Thinking of Christmas

My husband said I should title this picture “Festivus.” Do you remember Festivus? It is the holiday from Seinfeld. Festivus – for the rest of us. It was a rebuke of the commercialism of Christmas. The thing is, we wouldn’t need Festivus if Christmas was celebrated as the birthday of Jesus, and not what our [...]

Being Jesus to a hurting world

Tonight I watched in awe as my friend was Jesus to our community, which is dealing with the aftermath of a severe ice storm. This friend began a ministry called “Hearts for Heat” a few years ago, to raise money to make heat available to people who needed it. Last Saturday was supposed to be [...]

God’s laws. The 10 Commandments. We hear about them all the time. But do we know them? Here they are, straight from the old testament. God’s law, engraved on stone tablets. Seems like He intended them to be permanent…. From Exodus 20: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land [...]

  • Who was Jesus?

    Jesus was counter-cultural

The things he said weren’t accepted by most.
He criticized religious leaders who thought they knew it all.
    He hung out with outcasts.
    He loved.
And he called people to follow him.

How do we follow Jesus today?

We tell him “yes, we will follow.“
    We read his words.
    We listen for his voice.
And we begin an incredible journey of discovery.
Not just of him, but of ourselves.
